The Mamluk dignitaries of Cairo and Damascus ordered a number of large-sized Qurans for religious institutions. This manuscript includes the last juz (or section) of a Quran in several volumes written in the elegant cursive muhaqqaq script. The bismillah (“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the most Merciful”) introducing each surah is written in gold letters. The titles of the chapters are in blue, as in certain Gothic Bibles.
