The wardrobe of wood coated with white lacquer and the light fitting created by the Austrian designer Koloman Moser (1868–1918) are two of the most important elements of the furnishings in the Wittgenstein-Stonborough apartment in Berlin. Intended for a guest room, the wardrobe with a single door and curved sides combines the simplicity of the cupboard and the optical dynamism of Art Nouveau. A silver-plated lock is the only element animating the intensely white surface. The light fitting, a miracle of elegance, is suggestive of Byzantine crowns and the vamps of the stage in the Belle Époque, as well as the nascent art of cinema.
